The Name Oui Be
Negroes is enough to generate laughs on its own, but the African
American sketch comedy improv troupe chose its moniker as a tribute to
successful black performers in France and as a tongue in check poke at
political correctness. Drawing on a no-holds barred attitude, the
five-member ensemble tackles potentially offensive material with gusto,
dissecting interracial relationships, slavery, the KKK and racism
through humor.
Oui Be Negroes celebrates 10 years which reunites former members of the
group and explores African American issues and community from 1993 to
the present. X opens tonight at Spanganga, 3376 19th St (at
Mission), SF. Admission is $12.00. Call 826-1202 or visit
